Amazon makes some of the best smart displays around, and the mega-retailer has just announced an update to one of our favorite models, the Echo Show 8. The new Amazon Echo Show 8 officially launches on October 25, 2023. However, the device is available now for pre-order from Amazon for $149.99.

Smart displays add a level of functionality and versatility lacking in similar devices like smart speakers. In addition to voice commands, a smart display allows users to make video calls, watch content, and display security camera feeds. They also add a layer of accessibility for hearing-impaired users that smart speakers are unable to provide.

We loved the previous version of the Show 8 and consider it the best mid-sized smart display right now. When we tested it, we were particularly impressed with its overall value, features, and usability.

Along with an updated design and repositioned camera, Amazon has fitted the Show 8 with a new processor, which the brand claims makes the device 40% faster than the previous generation. Amazon has also added Thread and Zigbee connectivity to the Show 8, which makes it useable with pretty much any smart home device out there and compatible with the new Matter standard.

Additionally, the Echo 8 now includes spatial audio technology, which should provide improved sound quality and Adaptive Content, which adjusts the display based on how near or far you are from the device.
